The Workforce Almanac: A System-Level View of US Workforce Training Providers
WorkRise
The changing work landscape requires constant reskilling and upskilling across all education levels. While the US workforce development sector provides a crucial infrastructure for training workers to succeed in the workplace, this sector is often underutilized and underfunded because of its fragmentation.
The Workforce Almanac is a groundbreaking effort offering a comprehensive view of nearly 17,000 workforce training providers in the US. The open-source directory includes provider names, locations, and types, combining information from federal Registered Apprenticeship providers, nonprofit providers, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)-eligible training providers, and higher education.
The Almanac’s interactive portal allows users to explore providers at the local, state, and national levels. Policymakers, workforce boards, training providers, employers, researchers, and other stakeholders can use the tool to integrate Almanac data with resource allocation, match learners and workers to training and employment opportunities, and explore geospatial dimensions of these data. Users can download and combine the data with other information, such as labor market trends, local employer data, and workforce development funding opportunities for customized exploration. |

What is AI?
From IBM
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is technology that enables computers and machines to simulate human intelligence and problem-solving capabilities.
On its own or combined with other technologies (e.g., sensors, geolocation, robotics) AI can perform tasks that would otherwise require human intelligence or intervention. Digital assistants, GPS guidance, autonomous vehicles, and generative AI tools (like Open AI’s Chat GPT) are just a few examples of AI in the daily news and our daily lives.
Artificial intelligence has gone through many cycles of hype, but even to skeptics, the release of ChatGPT seems to mark a turning point. The last time generative AI loomed this large, the breakthroughs were in computer vision, but now the leap forward is in natural language processing (NLP). Today, generative AI can learn and synthesize not just human language but other data types including images, video, software code, and even molecular structures.
To learn more about AI, join the MBREDC for an informative session on August 15, 2024. |
