Moving Forward in 2022

Words from MBREDC President and CEO Sandy Davis
The MBREDC has three major goals:
1. Recruit and retain high quality industries to generate jobs for the citizens of Horry County.
2. Provide a variety of high quality economic development products in which new and existing industries can locate and or expand.
3. Have the MBREDC recognized as a leader in economic development both in Horry County and in South Carolina.

The major goals are being met and are exceeding our expectations even during a pandemic. Our community has come together to assist one another and many of our businesses and industries have reported some of their best years ever during these times.

2020 & 2021 recruitment efforts were much different than what they have been in the past. Travel has been at a minimum while our new recruiting model consists of Zoom, Teams, and conference calls. We are currently working over 400 leads and 30 plus projects. With companies unable to visit South Carolina, the SC Department of Commerce offered grants to provide counties with virtual videos of sites. These videos are available on our website and are an important tool in recruitment efforts.

2020 & 2021 Announcements:
-Vulcan Materials, 5 new jobs, $3 million capital investment and a partnership with RJ Corman Railroad.
-Global Metal Powders, 15 new jobs, $1.5 million capital investment, purchase of property at Cool Springs Business Park
-Skutchi Designs, 41 new jobs, $3.5 million capital investment, purchase of property at Ascott Valley Industrial Park
-Wild West, 40 new jobs, $2.5 million capital investment, purchase of building in Loris Industrial Park
Progress and improvements are being made on sites and buildings at Cool Springs, Ascott Valley, Loris Industrial Park, and Water Tower Road Interchange. It is important that we have these sites ready and available for future prospects.

Supporting existing industry is one of the most important pieces of economic development. On average 85% of all announcements are from existing industries. It is our goal to meet with all existing industry, host events for them to network with their peers and make our presence known that we are a free resource for them to utilize. Members of our team met with more than 100 of our existing companies and listened to their needs and suggestions to assist them with any problems and guide them to solutions or contacts, and we will continue to do so.

As Henry Ford said, "Working together is success." Each project requires many companies at the table to make it happen. The MBREDC thanks everyone who contributes to our success. It is you who makes all of these things possible. I think we can all agree that plans are in place and we are looking forward to many great things in 2022.

MBREDC 2022 Annual Meeting Highlights

On January 14, 2022, the MBREDC held its first Annual Meeting since 2020. The team was happy to host this extraordinary event along with our sponsors: Banton Media, Shade & Shutter Expo, and TD Bank. With nearly 200 members, guests, and elected officials in attendance, presentations were given by each of the sponsors, MBREDC President & CEO Sandy Davis, Board Chairman Mike Hagg, and South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey.
In an effort to diversify the local economy, the Myrtle Beach region offers many incentives to attract industry to our area or to our existing industries who would like to expand. It was agreed by all that Horry County is a great place to do business and 2022 is bringing many great additions to our area.
"Working together and and supporting each other can make anything possible," says Sandy Davis. "We are looking forward to a record year!"
