K- 12 - Horry County Schools is a countywide school district serving over 37,000 students in nine attendance areas. Since the mid-1990's, the district has invested nearly $500 million in new and renovated facilities. Nineteen new schools have been built, and two new attendance areas have been added.
Accomplishments include:
- 93 percent of Horry County Schools received a rating of Excellent, Good or Average
- SAT scores are 33 points above the state average
- The District's performance on the Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test (PACT) is higher than the state at all grade levels
- 94 percent of high school students who sought International Baccalaureate diplomas received them
- Horry County has the highest performing IB program in the state
- Seven schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education
- 7 private schools in Horry County
- 2 science and technology schools in Horry County (Myrtle Beach and Conway) to address the needs of high school students with defined career paths
